The C-3030 Zoom was a heavyweight in the early digital "megasensor" race, following the success of the C-2020. Encased in a rugged, all-black magnesium alloy body (a major upgrade from the plastic of earlier models), it was designed for enthusiasts who wanted SLR-style controls in a portable package. It was one of the first consumer digital cameras to offer high-speed movie recording with sound and a massive internal buffer that allowed for rapid burst shooting. Its f/2.8 lens remains highly regarded for its sharpness. While the SmartMedia cards it requires are now a vintage rarity, the camera itself is a landmark of early 2000s tech, bridging the gap between toy-like digicams and professional tools.
