The Sunpak 422 D was a powerhouse of the 1980s third-party flash market. "Thyristor" technology was a big selling point back then—it allowed the flash to "save" unused energy after a shot, leading to much faster recycle times and longer battery life. Like your Weston flash, this features a tilting and rotating head for bounce photography, but it is a significantly more powerful and professional unit. It features a modular mounting system; the "STD-1D" foot currently attached (Image DSC_0000-1738) is a standard single-pin mount, but it could be swapped for "dedicated" feet that allowed for TTL (Through-The-Lens) metering with specific camera brands.
