Description

The Sunpak Power Zoom 4000AF was a sophisticated third-party flash unit designed for the autofocus era of the 1990s. This particular version features the proprietary Minolta/Sony "iISO" (inverted ISO) hot shoe, which uses a push-button locking mechanism rather than a traditional screw-down wheel. It was a dedicated flash, meaning it could communicate directly with Minolta Maxxum autofocus cameras to sync zoom settings and exposure data. Technically, it features a Power Zoom head that automatically adjusts its position to match the focal length of the lens being used (from 28mm to 80mm), concentrating the light where it's needed most. The back features an early LCD panel for digital control over settings—a major step up from the analog dials found on the Vivitar 285 in your collection. It also includes an AF-assist red light on the front to help the camera focus in total darkness. Safety Warning: While this flash uses a lower trigger voltage than the 1970s models we cataloged, its specialized "iISO" mount makes it physically incompatible with standard hot shoes (like those on your Canon or Pentax cameras) without a specific adapter. It is designed almost exclusively for late-era Minolta film SLRs and early Sony Alpha digital cameras.
