Description

The Voigtländer Vito B is a masterpiece of West German engineering and one of the most elegantly designed compact cameras ever made. Known for its rounded, ergonomic edges and "jewel-like" build quality, it was designed as a premium pocket camera. Unlike your Argus C3, which is all sharp corners and gears, the Vito B is incredibly smooth and minimalist. Technically, this is a viewfinder camera, not a rangefinder. This means the window you look through is just for framing; it does not help you focus. You must estimate the distance to your subject and set it manually on the lens's distance scale (measured in feet on this specific unit). It features the highly-regarded Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.8 lens, a four-element Tessar-type design known for its exceptional sharpness and "punchy" contrast. The shutter is a Prontor-SVS, offering speeds up to 1/300 sec. The Vito B has a few legendary quirks: The "Invisible" Advance: The film advance lever is recessed into the top plate and must be pulled out to use. Film-Locked Shutter: The shutter will not fire unless there is film in the camera. The internal sprocket must be turned by moving film to cock the mechanism, which often leads people to think a perfectly functional Vito B is broken. The Bottom Hinged Door: The entire bottom and back of the camera swing open as one piece for loading, secured by a beautiful flip-lever on the base. This particular unit shows some honest "patina" and dust from storage, but the chrome remains in good condition. It represents a time when Voigtländer was at the pinnacle of optical and mechanical craft. With Voigtländer Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.8
