Florence attended the State Teachers College (now James Madison University) in Harrisonburg, Virginia before working as a chemist at the Virginia Truck Experiment Station and Campbell Soup Company. After marrying Jackson Hester in 1954, the couple formed an agricultural research laboratory in Elkton, Maryland.Collection
