Description

Hand quilted, hand embroidered, machine pieced kit quilt, and cross-stitched.

Context

Made by Mary Betty Rodes of Portmouth, Virginia. Betty attended the State Teachers College (now James Madison University) in Harrisonburg, Virginia before getting graduate degrees at both the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia. This quilt top was hand-appliquéd by Betty and came from a Bucilla Kit (#2323) entitled Briar Rose. After doing the hand appliqué on the top, Betty sent the quilt to be quilted by professional Mennonite quilters.
