Context

Polly was born, raised and lived here in the valley. Polly was the daughter of Stuart F. "Sam" and Pauline "Polly" Liskey Geil of Harrisonburg. She graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1954. In 1958 she obtained a BS degree in Medical Technology from MCV and the College of William & Mary. In Dec. 1958, Polly married Fred H Scot, also a native of Harrisonburg. Fred preceded Polly in death in 2011. Polly enjoyed several careers including teaching 4th grade, working as Administrative Assistant at Belle Grove, and developing her own weaving business. In the late 1980s, Polly took Mary Beery's quilt sampler class and found her new passion. Polly was a VQM member and volunteer docent for many years working alongside Nita Lord on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Polly also supported VQM through her donations: 1. Snow Crystals (c 1875) made in Rockingham Co. by her maternal grandmother Liskey - 2011.003.001 2. 1900 handmade Walnut desk made in the valley - 2011.003.002 3. 1940 handmade Rope Doll bed - 2011.003.003 4. 1880 German made doll - 2011.003.004 This Baltimore Album quilt was her magnum opus and demonstrates her outstanding creativity, passion, and workmanship. "Polly and I enjoyed a rich, deep and long friendship. After Polly's death, her children entrusted the quilt to me requesting that I find a proper home." - Paula Caldwell
