This was pieced by Sarah Judson Broadus in 1840 as a little girls "learning sewing". She then grew up, married, raised a family and left the quilt top in a trunk. Roughly 100 years later, Sarah's daughter Lucy Ann Stringfellow and her niece Lucy Catherine Bowie quilted the old top. The aesthetics of the quilt were sacrificed in order to best preserve and secure the pieces down.Collection
