There are eight rows of premiums that measure 5" x 8" on either side of the two rows of 7" x 10" premiums. The designs on the premiums are flags of countries in existence in the early 1900's. These flannel premiums are stitched together by a sewing machine.
There is no backing but a sleeve is attached to the top edge.Context
Eula Adams Bartee made this quilt in 1914 in Danville, Virginia. This is a stunning example of a "fad quilt", which were of little practical value and were made using bits of graphic fabric. This one employs little bits of cloth that came in packages of cigarettes that Mr. Bartee bought and Eula saved.Collection
