Context

John Aylor served with the Mosby Rangers, a Confederate Cavalry during the Civil War. After he was caught and imprisoned, he and the other Rangers were released two months after the surrender at Appomattox Court House. John married Nannie Sutton after the war and the two lived in Charlottesville, Virginia. She made this quilt and included his Mosby reunion ribbons from 1895.
