Description

This quilt features a solid blue and off-white/tan orange peel pattern. There are 56 blocks in total, arranged into a grid of 7 x 8. The blocks are set in straight, block to block. The sashing between the light blue blocks are 3'' x 7.5'' and the royal blue cornerstones are 1.5'' square. It was hand quilted in a grid pattern that follows the design of the quilt. There are diagonal line that form diamonds in the light blue sections, four squares in the dark blue and echo quilting in the crescent shapes. It measures 9-10 stiches per inch using single white cotton thread. The binding is a light blue, hand stitched, applied, measuring about ¼’’ wide and scalloped edges. The backing is 3 pieces of sateen fabric. There is a thin, cotton batting. Pattern is called White Rose, #311.5 in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia.

Context

Fannie Harriet Suter was a housewife who was born March 24, 1875 and died May 29, 1942 in Rockingham County, VA. She was married to a farmer named J- Gabriel Heatwole. She came from a Mennonite family.
