Twelve album blocks are set side by side into a 4x3 configuration with sashing and yellow cornerstones with a red and blue floral design. There are 12 unique blocks that include a house, a man, various animals and floral motifs. These blocks feature traditional applique and hand embroidery. The border and sashing is composed of a blue paisley printed fabric (possibly 1920s) and dark red cornerstones.
The quilting is hand done and minimal, featuring outlines of the top design.
Due to the sashing, it is believed that this was originally an 1850s quilt top or blocks that were later finished in the 1920s.Context
The donor inherited the quilt; After passing the quilt to the maker's son, Moses Hogg Semones, it passed to the oldest female in each generation, eventually passing it to the donor's mother. The donor is the great-great-great-grandson (Semones) / great-grandson (Hill).Collection
