22 large sunflowers hand appliquéd on a cream colored background. The yellow flowers with brown centers and green leaves are arranged around the perimeter of the quilt with the blossoms facing toward the center. The border consists of three strips of the same colors of the sunflowers. Backing is white. Hand quilted. There is a center medallion with crosshatching in the background.Context
Lulu Price Kagey made this quilt around 1925 in New Market, Virginia. She made this quilt for her son, Henry Price Kagey. It was used as a wedding gift to Henry, Sr. and his bride in 1937. In 1965 it was passed it on to their son Henry, Jr and then donated it to the museum after Henry, Jr. and his wife visited the museum from New Mexico.Collection
