Osberger Family Crazy Quilt

Name/Title

Osberger Family Crazy Quilt

Entry/Object ID

Description

Crazy Quilt with border and five medallions.

Context

The donor's family had attributed this crazy quilt to Una Osberger Ammerman who moved from New York to Cleveland, Ohio. Una's family came from Austria and were court members; it was in court that it is said Una learned to stitch. Research by the Virginia Quilt Museum has indicated that the likely maker of this quilt was Pauline Appell Osberger, Una's mother. Pauline was born in 1862 and Una in 1899. This quilt is believed to have been made in the 1860s or 1870s, meaning Una would not have yet been born.
