Context

This quilt was constructed in Connecticut for David Bers Wooster, the husband of the maker, Sarah A. Wooster. It is believed that this was an anniversary present. The two had two children together. David fought for the Union during the Civil War and was killed at the Battle of Fisher's Hill near Winchester, Virginia on September 22, 1864. Sarah remarried. The quilt was passed down to Sarah's and David's great granddaughter. When she passed away, she willed it to the donor to give the quilt to a museum.
