Description

This quilt is 87" square. Detailed vine and flower motif. Quilting in white portions of the quilt. Sawtooth pattern on border of design and quilt. It contains the Carpenter Square pattern, which is quite difficult. The pattern appears in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilted Patterns as #2580 on page 319. The colors are red and white.

Context

The quiltmaker is unknown, but it was made circa 1830's. The location of production is also unknown, but the style indicates the Mid-Atlantic region, potentially Virginia. This quilt was purchased at an estate by the donation family and donated to the museum in 2013.
