Four blocks of blue and white. Princess feather design with a swag border. The blue printed feathers were hand appliquéd onto the white muslin ground, then a reverse appliqué technique was used to create the veins of the feathers.Context
According to the donor, the quilt was made as a wedding gift. The maker's daughter was a childhood friend of the bride-to-be, Mabel. However, research done by the museum indicates that this quilt is much older than the date of the wedding, indicating it was made many years prior to the wedding. Previously, it was believed that the name written on the back, A.W. Moore, was the name of the quilt maker, however research also has found that to be untrue as well. The donor said it was made by Mary Moore's mother, who would have been Clara Moore. It is possible that this quilt was made by Clara in memory of A.W. Moore, who was her brother-in-law, and then was later gifted as a wedding present to Mabel. The donor is the daughter of Mabel.Collection
