Heavy amount of 1/2'' square grid and hanging diamonds in block backgrounds. 1/2'' parallel diagonal lines in borders and lattices. 1/4'' straight white cotton applied binding.
Pattern is #857.02 in Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia.
A few fabrics, close in color and pattern were used to complete the quilt.
Hand pieced, appliqued, and quilted. It is densely quilted in diamond and chevron patterns.Context
Made by 2 x great grandmother, her sister and their maternal grandmother (4x's great grandmother of the present owner). In a note with the quilt, the fabric was brought to them by their paternal grandfather (Joseph Fawcett) who came to visit from St. Charles, MO to Virginia on Horseback.
Supposedly used for teaching grandchildren to quilt. Provenance potentially accurate as some quilting is less quality and stitches per inch.Collection
