This quilt is made out of old feedsacks from Ft. Defiance Mill in Fort Defiance, Virginia. It features a large label in the middle of the quilt with 4-patch hourglass blocks surrounding the middle label. Each 4-patch block has a pink tie in the middle. There is hand quilting surrounding/outlining the sashing. It is in excellent condition.
“The parents of Mary Elizabeth Stover Landes were Rachel Stover, birth date unknown, died January 29, 1859, and Daniel Stover, birth date unknown, died June 8, 1889. The parents of William Riley Landes were Elizabeth Landes, birth date unknown, died September 1882, and Samuel Landes, no known date for birth or death.
Mary Elizabeth Stover Landes was related to Ida Stover who lived just west of Fort Defiance, VA until she married and moved west. Ida Stover was the mother of First General, and then President, Dwight D. Eisenhower.”Acquisition
