Central medallion with neoclassical basket designs and botanical elements. Despite being a wholecloth quilt, it was composed of 3 panels of muslin. The fabric would have been purchased new to construct the quilt. There is a triple border and completed in a center medallion style. There is a knife edge binding. The back is also 3 panels of homespun muslin. The batting is thick cotton.
It is completely hand quilted. The stitches are uneven and 8 stitches per inch. There is stippling quilting around the edge and lines closer to the center. Vines (grape) and leaves undulate. The center medallion features 4 baskets from an undulating vine, feather plumes in the square. Ground is filled with double cross hatch quilting.Context
