Context

This opportunity quilt was gifted to the Virginia Quilt Museum as part of the Heritage Redefined Modern Quilt Exhibit. Susan Emory’s design was inspired by the traditional “orange peel” block, but with a modern, deconstructed aesthetic. Bold colors were chosen to make a dramatic statement against the white and gray background. Melanie Leckey’s free motion quilting continued with the deconstruction of the orange peel with free floating “peels” to emphasize the design.
