This Dresden Plate quilt was made using cotton fabric and used cotton for the batting as well. It is 75 3/4" x 75 3/4". This quilt is comprised of 16 blocks in the Dresden plate pattern. Each block measures 16 1/2" square and consists of the pieced plate in colors of red, gold, blue, purple, and green appliquéd on a white background. The corner of each block features one red leaf shape appliquéd. The resulting secondary pattern when the four leaves come together is a petal effect or the suggestion of a background trellis.
There are two borders on the quilt. The first is a 2" red the same as the leaves and the second is a 2 1/2" yellow/green floral print. A red calico print is used on the back and is brought to the front to form the binding with rounded corners.
The quilt is machine pieced and hand appliqued and hand quilted. The stitches are uneven and about 5 stitches per inch with single, white, cotton thread. The quilting is done in straight lines, mirroring the square blocks. In the center of each Dresden Plate is a little cross.
The back is composed of 2 strips of a red floral print. The batting is a thick cotton.Context
