2000.008.001Description
This quilt uses cotton with a nine patch and red-work pattern. It measures 73" x 83 1/2". Colors in the pieced blocks include blue, brown, pink, red, tan, and yellow. The embroidery is all done in red on white background and included sayings and poems of the day, as well as images of flora and fauna, symbols, and initials. The blocks are contained by a border, which is also embroidered with a zig-zag of three parallel lines. The backing is a print of floral stripes and the front is turned to the back to finish the quilt. There does not appear to be any batting but there is hand quilting in straight lines forming diamonds in the white blocks and double diagonal lines through the pieced blocks and border.
