Description

Thirty pieced squares measuring approximately 10'' is in the pattern called Arrow. The blocks are made of a blue and white plaid and a small print on white. Sashing 5'' x 10'' is pink on pink plaid fabric with a joining square of a mini blue flower on white print. The sashing is the outer most design element of the quilt forming a border. The backing is composed of 3 vertical panels of unbleached muslin, which has been brought to the front as binding, measuring 1/4'' wide with square corners. Sleeve has been attached to one side. The batting is a thin cotton. The entire quilt is hand quilted. The stitches are uneven at about 6-7 stitches per inch. It consists of diagonal lines across the pieced blocks; double diagonal lines in the sashing.

Context

The quilt was pieced by Martha Ellen Linaberg Clouser for her daughter, Clara Matyn Clouser Kline. Clara then passed it to her daughter, Pauline Ligget, the donor. The other name on the quilt is John Thomas Kline, the brother of the donor. Martha Ellen Linaberg Clouser was born in 1862 in Mountain Falls, Virginia and died in 1933. She was married to John Quinton Clouser and had 11 children.
