Crazy quilt style quilt using old men's shirting, wool, silk, and velvet fabrics to create fan blocks (all facing the same direction) on a black background fabric. Hand pieced to foundation with hand embroidered designs. 56 total blocks that are set in a grid of 7 x 8. The blocks are pieced together in a potholder style using black thread. Red embroidery outlines all the blocks and surrounds the fan designs. A single, pieced border lines the top and bottom of the quilt.
The binding is completed in two ways. The sides of the quilt are finished with an applied black binding, while the top/bottom of the quilt are finished with a top to back binding. All of the corners are squared.
The backing is a maroon patterned cotton fabric. There is no batting and no quilting.Context
