This appliquéd and pieced quilt uses cotton fabrics and is 100" x 104 1/2". The top of this quilt consists of three muslin panels with 6" hexagon mosaic blocks that have been pieced and then appliquéd onto the muslin panels. The hexagons are of early prints with some showing evidence of overdyeing of blue and yellow to create green.
A border measuring 7 1/2" wide is made of a tan fabric with a blue floral print. The backing was brought to the front as the binding. Attached to the edging on three sides is hand-made fringe. A label attached to the backing is from the Virginia Quilt Project, dated March 30, 1991.
The entire quilt is hand quilted at 7-8 stitches per inch, using single, white, cotton thread. The quilting consists of double outline in hexagons, then quilted around the block. A zig-zag design was used for the muslin background. Alternating straight diagonal lines form triangles on the border.
The batting is a medium cotton. The backing is composed of three vertical strips of homespun cotton.Context
