2016.009.006Description
There are a total of 56 Nine-Patch blocks arranged into a grid of 7 x 8. Each block is set in a grid with white sashing. The sashing measures about 4.5 inch by 8 inch. There are also a total of 42 4 inch x 4 inch green cornerstones, except for one. The blocks are framed by a single, 3 inch pieced border. Within the border is a zig-zag pattern made out of originally purple fabric. The 0.25 inch applied binding is also made with purple fabric and rounded corners.
The quilt is densely hand quilted using single, white cotton thread. The stitches are uneven, so potentially two different hands, at 11 stitches per inch in the green sections and 14 stitches per inch in the white sections. A lot of the pencil lines are still present. There is straight double line quilting in the blocks and diagonal lines in the border. Straight plumes are quilted into the horizontal sashing and curved plumes in the vertical sashing.
The batting is a thin cotton. The back is composed of 3 strips of cotton muslin. There is a stamp with the letter "C".
