12 Christmas blocks are set side by side into a 3 x 4 configuration with tan sashing. Each of the 14 inch blocks are bordered with a 1/4 inch green frame. The blocks each feature one of the day of Christmas that have been expertly appliqued. The blocks are surrounded a double, pieced border. The firs is a 6 inch tan border with applique pears and holly in each corner. The second is a 5 inch solid black holly printed fabric border. The backing is composed of 2 horizontal strips of 41'' cotton fabric. The batting is a medium cotton. Machine pieced, hand appliqued, hand embroidered. Long arm custom quilted by Kathy Gray. Quilted to piece around each applique shape with background fill or meandering feathers. The borders are quilted with two different feathers/plum motifs. The edge is finished with a 1/4 inch binding of a green and yellow pear print cotton. The binding is applied with straight edges and mitered corners.Context
Emily Martin, the maker, was inspired to create her own version of The Twelve Days of Christmas when she viewed a similarly themed piece at the Quilter's Unlimited Show. This quilt features maker's original design. The maker is an award winning quilter who does not have a record of sales for similar pieces.Collection
