2 Newcomers Elected
To Dumfries Council
By Staff Reporter
DUMFRIES - Mayor Edward
W. Fraley won a lopsided victory
as two newscomers won seats on
the Town Council in the second
annual town election yesterday.
John Wilmer Porter, colored garage
owner, and Nick Katserelis,
auto dealer, gained seats on the
six-member Council in a nine-way
race.
Fraley defeated Councilman
James A. Bishop by 48 to 19 for
his second one-year term as
Mayor.
Once again Randolph Brawner
was ticket leader in the Council
race, with 51 votes. Placing second
with 44 was Ruel F. Waters,
just ahead of Porter's 43.
Two other incumbents winning
new terms were Cecil W. Garrison,
with 41, and George Schlegel,
with 40.
Katserelis gained the sixth seat
with 39 votes.
The new Council takes office
Sept. 1, but Fraley said the two
newcomers will be invited to sit
with the present Council next
week as it studies a proposed
zoning ordinance for the town.
Trailing in the voting yesterday
were Fred A. Parsels, with 30;
Guy R. Reynolds, with 32, and
Jesse W. Mountjoy, with 28. There
were no write-in votes recorded.
Parsels placed sixth in the voting
a year ago but failed to qualify
with an oath of office for his
seat. One other incumbent. Alvin
H. Kettlebar, did not run for re-election.Transcriber
