Some Dumfries residents believe Virginia towns have been unjustly deprived of federal money for the celebration of the Bicentennial.
They have drafted a letter to president Ford asking why a federal grant to Virginia's Independence Bicentennial Commission was not distributed proportionatley between town and state projects.
Virginians were wronged when the money was allocated exclusively to state projects, the letter says.
Dumfries townsmen would have used their share to restore the Weems-Botts museum, according to Historic Dumfries member Hilary Costello.
Costello said the letter will be sent to all Virginia towns. One copy will remain in the Dumfries town hall for 60 days for residents to sign before it is sent to the President.Translator
