Petition to Expand
Dumfries Is Filed
DUMFRIES, Jan. 25 - ([AP?]) - A petition to annex 11
square miles of area to the tiny town of Dumfries was filed Wednesday in the Prince William county Circuit Court.
Signed by residents in the proposed area, the petition
seeks to join a suburban and undeveloped section to the
once dormant town that was reactivated here last spring.
The present area of the town is 200 acres.
S. Caldwell Bagley, Dumfries attorney, said the signers
number 161 of the 195 qualified voters in the area.
He estimated the annexation, if approved, may add
1,500 to the town's population of 1,368.
The area skirts neighboring Triangle, just south of
here, and the Possum Point property of the Virginia Electric
and Power Co.
Included would be two shopping centers and the new
Prince William Estate subdivision; also Cherry Hill and
Three Stone Point on the Potomac river, and most of a
giant woodland that is planned for apartments, homes and
a marina by a Washington developer.Transcriber
