Biography
Graham Whipple is an Idaho Falls based artist and architect whose artistic work in fine printing represents a non-traditional approach to the letterpress process - a centuries old trade skill turned art form.
Graham showed artistic strength during his youth with a variety of work and artistic media including pencil, charcoal, pastels, pen and ink, mixed media and graphic design. In later years he has expanded his skillset into 3D through his work as an architect, and with woodworking, sculptures and ceramics.
He received formal training in design and color theory as part of his professional architectural education. In 1995 his future wife, Devon, introduced him to the Book Arts which led to the entry into the world of Letterpress in 1997. Since that time he has learned additional printmaking skills of utilizing hand-cut wood and
linoleum forms.
Graham has been involved in the Eagle Rock Art Guild and as a museum artist at The Art Museum in Idaho Falls. He has participated in annual art exhibits and artisan markets with both organizations.
Graham’s work combines design principles, color theory, and technical skills, he continues his unique approach to fine printing through a combined interplay of moveable type, wood and linoleum cuts, digital design, Lego, and found or shaped elements as they can be manipulated for use on vintage printing equipment.
