Biography
Milica Popovic was born in 1966 in a small town in northern Yugoslavia. Through intensive work on the problems of figurative drawing and painting, she systematically developed her artistic expression into an abstract approach. Popovic is interested in the problems of space in drawing, a reduction of elements and development of personal expression.
From 1992 - 1996 she taught art at several elementary schools in Novi Sad. In 1991 the war broke out in Yugoslavia. The changes in the society and economy of the state greatly affected Popovic’s artistic work. In 1996 because of the dramatic development of the economic crisis and the impossibility of providing for one’s bare living, Popovic emigrated from Yugoslavia to Seattle where she adjusted to a new culture and studied the English language.
Popovic has been an art instructor at the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls since 2006. She teaches courses in beginning painting, intermediate and studio painting as well as design. She also manages the Jean B. King Gallery at the Herrett Center. Popovic has exhibited throughout the United States.
