Biography
Karen Woods was born in Seattle Washington and has lived in the West for most of her life. Since 1994 she has made the city of Boise not only her home, but the subject matter of her paintings.
For Woods the most intriguing subjects are found by looking out the window of her truck. Often framed by the dashboard and hood, and obscured by rainfall, these views are painted in the realist tradition. Yet it is their metaphorical and art-historical references that inspire her to explore further. Where to Now? was a 2009 Idaho Paints Idaho award winner.
She paints fulltime in a shared studio space in downtown Boise. She is represented by Stewart Gallery in Boise, the George Billis Gallery in New York City, the Billis/Williams Gallery in Los Angeles, and Quidley & Company Fine Art in Nantucket, MA and Naples, FL.
