Biography
Olympia, Washington-based artist and teacher Ron Hinson created abstract, three-dimensional, painted constructions. Born and raised in Ohio, Hinson earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He worked in advertising in New York City before teaching art at Union College in Kentucky in 1961. Later, he moved to the Pacific Northwest where he taught at South Puget Sound Community College and The Evergreen State College, both in Olympia, Western Washington. Hinson was most well-known for his painted constructions that are almost sculptural, though he considered them to be more like paintings. He seldom titled his pieces to encourage viewers to think more deeply and find their own interpretations.
