Biography
LaVere Hutchings, a descendant of Mormon pioneers, was born in Idaho where he studied at Idaho State University and Brigham Young University. Hutchings owned a sign company until the 1960s, but was determined to become an artist. He sold his business and moved to Woodstock, New York to study painting with John Pike. He became a devoted watercolorist and from the 1970s, when he moved to California, until his death, he became a highly regarded and celebrated watercolor painter. He was a member of the Society of Western Artists, the National Watercolor Society, the Midwest Watercolor Society, and Whiskey Painters of America. Hutchings wrote several books, including Make Your Watercolors Sing. A number of Hutchings’ paintings were reproduced as Hallmark Cards.
