Biography
Don Rick’s passionate artistic vision first emerged in childhood. He was only in the 5th grade when he told his father he wanted to be an artist. He later went to the University of Utah on a football scholarship and studied painting until he became a father and postponed studying art to support his family. He started a sign painting business which he ran for 22 years.
At the age of 39, he exchanged the sign painting brushes for oil brushes and canvas. He taught art classes and ran summer artist workshops at his home in southeastern Idaho. The programs sponsored artists like Sergei Bongart to come study, teach, and paint with artists from the United States and abroad.
