Biographical Information

Biography

Ed Mell was born in 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona. His passion for art began at a young age through model car design. This passion flourished through his high school years. Mell received an Associated Arts Degree from Phoenix Junior College and later studied illustration in Los Angeles at The Art Center College of Design. After years of transition between various firms and personal businesses, Mell moved back to Arizona and began to experiment with colored pencil landscapes. This soon progressed to oils whereupon Mell found that the greater demand for landscape paintings allowed him to leave the world of commercial illustration to pursue painting. Over the years, Mell’s creativity expanded to include bronze sculpture and lithography. His works are distinguished by recurring themes of southwestern landscapes, cowboys, cattle, cacti and desert flowers.
