Biography
Liz Herrmann was born and raised in Minneapolis, but later attended Iowa State University where she graduated with a double major of Applied Art and Education. She began her career teaching art in Los Angeles. While her own children were young, Herrmann decided to become a preschool teacher. She taught 4 year olds for 25 years. She retired as the Family Literacy Coordinator at the Idaho Falls Public Library in 2004. After full retirement, Herrmann was able to dedicate more of her time to painting and serving in the community. As a “professional volunteer,” she was involved with many community groups that include The Art Museum, Museum of Idaho, FISH (Friends in Service Here), Friends for Learning and was active at Trinity Methodist Church.
Herrmann is most drawn to the artistic medium of watercolor. “I love the transparency and freshness of watercolor. I have always been an observer and am drawn to color and texture.” Art has become a great joy for her in retirement. She is a Signature Member of the Idaho Watercolor Society. Herrmann now resides in Portland, Oregon and is still painting.
