Biography
Born in 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah, Bangerter earned a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and a MFA from the University of Utah. As a professional artist, Bangerter has painted, lived and traveled extensively throughout the US, Saudi Arabia, Czech Republic, Russia, Germany, Brazil and most recently, Argentina.
Life as an artist came to a halt for Bangerter in 1998 after being beaten to near death and losing sight in his left eye during a random hate crime. Nine years after this brutal attack, he returned to life as an artist writing, painting and exhibiting again. His travels and unorthodox life have reaped and inflicted upon him many unusual experiences.
In 2009 the term Neo-Composition was used to describe Bangerter’s work and a small select band of artists working in watercolor as their primary medium. Neo-Compositionalism is defined as a movement in art (specifically plein air landscape) that focuses on content, composition and juxtaposition rather than adhering to any form of realism.
