Biography
Born in Boise, Idaho, Marjorie Clearwater lived in a turn-of-the-century farm house in Ucon, Idaho from 1973 until her passing in 2017. Through the 70s, she owned and operated a gallery and gift shop on Park Avenue in downtown Idaho Falls.
Clearwater studied with numerous artists including Conrad Schweiring, Hayward Veal, Milford Zornes and Sergei Bongart focusing primarily on plein air painting. In 1998 she organized the Snake River Plein Air Painters and led the group until retiring from the position in 2009. She was co-supervisor at the Art Department of Eastern Idaho State Fair for two years, a past president in the Eagle Rock Art Guild and past board member of the Bonneville Historical Society.
She was selected as one of eight North American artists to have a painting represent “Art in American” at a Parisian gallery. She exhibited regularly and taught workshops from time to time. She was also the author of Art and History of the Snake River Greenbelt, Color and How to Revive a Painting.
