Biography
Christine Fortner discovered her love for art as a child growing up in Maryland. As a senior in high school, she was accepted into a prestigious intensive study of portraiture at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. She went on to major in art at Arizona State University where she met her husband.
The couple moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they lived for 35 years. There, Fortner taught watercolor painting for 20 years and hosted workshops throughout the state. Her paintings have been accepted into many local and national exhibitions, and have been published in several books and magazines including, Acrylic Works 3: Celebrating Texture. In 2017 and Art & Color 365, Summer 2025 issue. She enjoyed an Artist Residency in Juneau sponsored by the State of Alaska and was honored to have her work in many private and public Collections, including The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho and the Anchorage Museum.
She and her husband now live in Idaho Falls, where she belongs to a number of local arts organizations including Gallery 12 and Idaho Watercolor Society. When she is not painting her interpretations of nature, she can often be found playing with her grandchildren.
