Biography
Born in Switzerland, Werner Gisin studied at a private art school in Bern. In 1948, Gisin immigrated to the United States and eventually found his way to Idaho Falls where he met Cleo Werner, the owner of Smitty’s Restaurant located on Broadway.
Cleo allowed Gisin to sell his paintings through the restaurant, but soon began buying many of his paintings to keep them from leaving her restaurant. Many of Gisin’s paintings continue to be showcased at Smitty’s Restaurant today.
