Carved Brown Stone Recumbent Guardian Lion
Name/Title
Carved Brown Stone Recumbent Guardian LionEntry/Object ID
SC0403Description
Chinese carved brown ornamental stone figure of a recumbent guardian lion, modeled in an unusually compact and expressive manner with an oversized head, prominent circular eyes, broad open mouth, swept-back ears, strongly articulated facial ridges and four folded legs. The exaggerated treatment gives the traditional guardian-lion subject a particularly animated appearance. Carved substantially in the round and polished, from mottled olive- to yellow-brown stone of presently undetermined mineral composition. Separate fitted dark wood stand.Type of Sculpture
