Chinese carved reddish-brown ornamental stone figure of a striding horse, modeled with an elongated body, arched neck and lowered head, the mane and tail rendered in deeply incised flowing locks. The horse advances across an integral carved support with localized gray and lighter-colored areas in the otherwise predominantly deep reddish-brown stone. The carving does not stand securely independently and was originally displayed on a common wooden base as one of a set of eight carved stone horses. Five carvings from the original group survive in catalogable condition and are now cataloged individually.
