Pair of Blue-and-Iron-Red Porcelain Bottle Vases with Dragons and Floral Scrolls
Entry/Object ID
CR0106
Description
Matched pair of Chinese porcelain bottle vases with globular bodies and elongated necks, decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and iron red. Iron-red dragons and floral blossoms appear amid dense blue foliate scrollwork, with stylized wave, floral and upright-leaf borders continuing onto the shoulders and necks. Each vase bears the six-character underglaze-blue hall mark 聚順美玉堂製 (Jù Shùn Měi Yù Táng Zhì), a mark documented on Kangxi-period porcelain. The dragon and floral imagery forms an auspicious decorative program associated with power, prosperity and flourishing growth. The pair retains a fitted satin-lined presentation case.

Each bears the six-character underglaze-blue hall mark 聚順美玉堂製 (Jù Shùn Měi Yù Táng Zhì), approximately “Made for the Hall of Gathering Obedience and Beautiful Jade.” This mark is documented on Kangxi-period porcelain; whether the present pair is of Kangxi date or bears a later revival mark remains to be determined.
