Description

A naturally occuring fine-grained dendritic limestone or quartz-agate matrix with dark mineral veining, typically from the Guangxi region of China. This region is prized for figurative patterns that mimic natual landscapes. The reverse side displays the continuing internal pattern of the stone, confiming it is a fully natural solid stone slab rather than a surface-painted piece. Also called Chinese Dreamstone, the primary skill of a master stone craftsman is knowing exactly where to cross-section a raw boulder. They cut thin, flat slabs across the mineral veins to expose hidden natural imagery. Tradition Chinese aesthics ( the concept of 'Zhi') dictate that the artisian's intervention should be minimal. the stone is carefully ground smooth, polished, and sometimes shaped into an oval to create a frame that mimics a window.
