Description

This item is a traditional Chinese Hulusi, free-reed wind instrument, also known as the gourd flute, characterized by a smooth, mellow sound and a gourd-shaped wind chamber. The hulusi (Chinese: 葫芦丝, pinyin: húlúsī) is a free-reed aerophone originating from southwest China, particularly Yunnan province, and also found in the Shan State of Myanmar and Assam in India, where it is played by various ethnic groups such as the Dai, Yi, and Miao people. Its name comes from the Mandarin words húlu (gourd) and si (silk), referring to the smooth, clarinet-like tone produced by the instrument.
