Description

Chinese unglazed zisha stoneware teapot of sculptural lotus/flower form, the lobed body modeled as overlapping petals and decorated in relief with auspicious mythical beasts. The curved handle is incised with scale-like decoration, and the fitted lid is surmounted by a sculptural mythical-beast and bud/fruit-form finial. Underside modeled as a five-petal flower centered by an impressed square seal. Additional impressed marks appear on the underside of the lid. China, probably 20th century; maker presently unidentified.
