Name/Title
Carved Pale Celadon and Russet Stone Buddhist Fu Lion with LingzhiEntry/Object ID
SC0401Description
Chinese carved pale celadon-gray and russet ornamental hardstone group depicting a crouching guardian or Buddhist lion-like beast (possibly Fu Lion) accompanied by scrolling lingzhi-form vegetation. The creature is modeled with prominent circular eyes, an open mouth, curled facial and mane details and substantial clawed limbs. The carving is worked substantially in the round with pierced and undercut passages, while honey-yellow and russet-brown areas of the naturally variegated stone appear to have been selectively incorporated into the composition. Mounted on a separate fitted dark wood stand.Type of Sculpture
